HISTORY & DESCRIPTION:
GOLDEN COCKEREL is one of a series of motor cruisers designed and built by George Wilson Ltd of Sunbury on Thames in 1946. Wilson’s have an established reputation for attractive and well-built cruisers during the 1940s, 50s and 60s with most notably the Swan series. During the 1950s GOLDEN COCKEREL was owned by Miss R Phelps of Devonshire Close, London W1. She sold the boat to a close neighbour and most likely friend in Devonshire Close a Mrs J Woolcombe OBE who stationed GOLDEN COCKEREL at Horning on the Norfolk Broads. In 1966 Mr H Carter of Norwich bought the boat continuing to cruise the Norfolk rivers. Under various owner GOLDEN COCKEREL has remained on the Southern Broads an ideal location as with the canopy and screen folded down her air draft is such she can access the Northern Broads and negotiate the infamous Potter Heigham Bridge. GOLDEN COCKEREL would also be a capable estuary or coastal cruiser and very suitable for the non-tidal River Thames.
Traditional carvel construction, mahogany planking all copper fastened to steam bent oak timbers. Oak centreline. Sheathed decks, mahogany coachroof coamings and cockpit. Many original deck fittings and hardware. Round bilges, transom stern, slightly raked straight stem and fine entry forward making her easily driven in a seaway.
Original interior offering spacious saloon with standing headroom having settee berths to port and starboard. Forward heads compartment to starboard with Jabsco marine wc. Fore cabin with chain locker, ample stowage space and the possibility of an additional small berth. Galley to port aft quarter of the saloon with Taylors cooker. Sink unit with pantry and crockery lockers below. Starboard side cabin entrance with useful corner locker. Generous cockpit with locker seating and table. Helm position to port side. Large stern lazarette housing the fuel tanks. Full folding canopy.
30hp PERKINS PERAMA 3 cylinder diesel engine with Hurth gearbox. To be fully serviced in December 2020.
