The Saltram Saga 40 was designed by Alan Pape, well known Cornish naval architect and owner of boatyard Curtis & Pape.  He was known for many successful boats including the Sagas and the Ebbtides, both of which are proven offshore cruising yachts.

The Saltram Sagas were built by K.R. Skentelbery & Sons Ltd of Plymouth.

This is one of the last boats built, the hull was delivered to the commissioning owner in 1990 and he completed the fit out of the interior and systems, first launching the boat in 2006.  Since then the boat has done a couple of cruises around the UK but has generally been used very little.  The current owners are only the second owners and are very experienced marine professionals who worked on the boat before taking her on a voyage to the west coast of Scotland.  Time pressures now mean they will not be able to use her for the extended cruising they originally planned so she is being put up for sale.

The boat was fitted out by the first owner over a 16 year period and completed to a very high standard.  The interior joinery is all teak including solid teak sole boards.  It is clear the owners passion was the project, more so perhaps than actually going sailing which is why he only carried out a couple of voyages after the launch.

The Saga 40 is an ideal blue water cruising yacht and represents superb value for money compared to the more expensive but comparable Halberg Rasseys and Malos.  The hull is very strongly built with a heavy lay up of GRP.  She has a long keel with a high ballast ratio in the external ballast keel.  Internally the hull is supported by enormous structural floors across the centreline which is not common in most GRP yachts.  She has terrific volume and in many ways makes an absolutely superb offshore cruising boat, whether that is for a family or a lone sailor.
