HISTORY & DESCRIPTION:
The Spitzgatter is a traditional design from the Scandinavian region associated with a distinct hull form with the stern lines tapering to form a double ended vessel with a large swept rudder. Spitzgatter have a high stability and immense seaworthness and the design, not dissimilar to a Colin Archer has been used as regional workboats and lifeboats.
In the 1930’s M S J Hansen, a well known yacht designer developed the Spitzgatter as a private yacht.
Three S55 Spitzgatter yachts were built during the 1930’s by the Navy Dockyard in Copenhagen. One was wrecked in the Second World War, the second sold to the USA and the third, named Vidi , the last of this type in Europe was restored in 2010-11.
Following a keel-up restoration the yacht was extensively equipped for all seasons sailing, professionally maintained she is currently in commission sailing in the Balearic Islands.
Substantial Nordic Pine construction 1.4 inch planking on sawn oak frames having intermediate steamed timbers through copper fastened. Oak centre-line and deadwood with 4.5 ton lead ballast keel. New keel-bolts and heavy strap floors.Teak laid decks, recently re-payed and varnished mahogany coachroof coamings and cockpit. Mahogany skylight, rails and hatches.
Bermudian Sloop Rig sets 55 sq. m. plain sail. Keel stepped oregon pine mast and boom. Stainless steel standing rigging. New mainsail, genoa, lug sail and foresail.
Spacious, well planned bright accommodation for four in two cabins. Solid mahogany joinery combined with white enamel woodwork. Burgandy coloured upholstery. Brass fittings 12 volt lighting.
Saloon with two settee berths to port and starboard. drop-leaf table, lockers and shelves.
Galley with stainless steel sink, high-quality fridge with freezer. Pantry and crockery lockers. Pressurised water supply.
Navigation Desk / Chart Table to starboard.
Fore Cabin with two 7ft berths with option to make double berth. Electric marine heads.
Aft cockpit, tiller steering, locker seats.
43hp Nanni four cylinder diesel engine completely overhauled in 2011, driving a three blade bronze propeller. 120 litre fuel capacity. New electric system in 2011 with high power charging, two new AGM consumer batteries (400ah) and a new lead starter battery.
