TYRENA – HISTORY & DESCRIPTION:
Designed by Charles A. Nicholson, Design no. A181 and built by Berthon of Lymington in 1959
Official No. 300698 for C J Sanders from Surrey. Registered and moored in Southampton during the early 1960s. In 1962 Dr. & Mrs W E Glover purchased TYRENA moving her to Donaghadee near their family home in Ireland. They won the Alisa Craig Regatta Trophy in 1962. In the late 1960s, Leslie Oldridge FCA of Reading acquired the vessel moving her to a Beaulieu River mooring in 1970. In 1977 W S MARTIN of Shearway Foods Ltd bought TYRENA keeping her in Brighton Marina. In the early 1980s, R Lindsay of Burgess Hill owned the vessel, still in Lloyds 100A1 class until 1982.
TYRENA has proven to be a capable offshore cruising yacht with an interesting history, she has sailed across the Atlantic six times, spent time in The Caribbean, around Britain and the near Continent then sailed to The Mediterranean where she is now lying in Greece.
