ZIRCON is believed to be the prototype YW Five-Tonner, commissioned by the editor of Yachting World Magazine, Group Captain Haylock in 1947 and featured in YW in November 1947. Designed by the renowned naval architect Robert Clark and built by W King & Son at Burnham -on-Crouch, Essex. In the mid 1950s Major-General A W Lee CB MC and family bought the vessel and named her CRIZON and interesting re-arrangement of the original name. She was stationed in Dartmouth and was in their ownership until the late 1970s when purchased by I F Wheatcroft and moved to Newton Ferrers near their home. The present owners bought the vessel in 1997 during which time ZIRCON has taken part in all the classic rallies in Plymouth, winning the Concours d’ Elegance in 2003, in Fowey winning Class 3 in 2004, and many Falmouth Regattas. ZIRCON has featured in article in Classic Boat Magazine. Maintained annually by C Toms & Sons, boat builders in Polruan, Cornwall, ZIRCON is a well cared for example of these weatherly cruising yachts and only offered for sale due to the advancing age of the owners.

Sloop rigged with a bumpkin. Rigging renewed in 2020.
