HISTORY & DESCRIPTION:

The Mevagissey Toshers were principally designed as a, one-man boat, for plummeting for Mackerel during the Spring and Summer months. The Tosher name was generically applied to small fishing boats built in Mevagissey, near Portmellon in Cornwall. Traditionally lug rigged, many were built in the 1920s and 30s. A Frazier built 20ft Tosher costing £65 in 1936. The boat building firm was established in 1850 by James Frazier in Mevagissey, the last member of the boat building family was the much respected William (Arthur) Frazier, June 1920 to January 2021.

MAUD dates from the 1930s and is 18ft 6ins on deck, built of pitch-pine on steam bent oak timbers with marine ply decks. Spring 2021 re-paint and antifoul. Useful locker under foredeck, forward and centre thwarts, slatted side benches. Stern lazarette. Varnished elliptical coamings.

10hp BETA 2 Cylinder DIESEL ENGINE, fitted in 2008. Serviced 2021. Approx 5 knots, 2 gallon fuel tank, three bladed propeller.

Varnished spruce mast, mizzen and bowsprit. Cutter, Standing Lug Ketch Rig, four tan sails – 10 to 30 years old. Fore sail, Jib, loose footed lug main sail, mizzen.

Danforth anchor, variety of ropes, four fenders, electric bilge pump.

A sturdy, well proven day sailer in present ownership some 23 years, advancing age now dictates a sale. A much loved family boat located for many years in arguably the most beautiful mooring in the country at St Just in the Roseland. Possible mooring available via Pasco’s Boat Yard at £750 per annum.

An ideal boat for exploring creeks and swatchways or estuary sailing. Non high tech, traditional and simple, uncomplicated day sailer, great fun for all the family to just enjoy being on the water. Ready for the 2021 season.
