Firecracker IV is a She 27, built by South Hampshire Engineering in 1972. She was designed by Sparkman and Stephens (design no: 2065) as an IOR Mk 3 ½ tonner at a time when S&S were producing their finest out put for Nautor Swan. The She 27 reflected these designs and has been described as a ‘baby Swan’. Her core dimensions are LOA 26’ LWL 19’ 3” Beam 8’ 6”Draft 4’ 9”, displacement 5255 lbs and sail area 287 sq ft, with a high aspect profile and mast height of 32’ 6” and boom length of 8.75’. In her day these craft were heavily and successfully raced and renowned for their agility.
Suffolk Yacht Harbour was instructed to carry out the following work: replacement of old worn ‘she deck’ (grp simulated teak deck) with new Awlgrip deck; renewal of all external brightwork; hull polished and antifouled ; cooker replaced with new Taylor’s paraffin stove. At the same time Evolution Rigging were instructed to replace all standing rigging with new, inspect and carry out necessary repairs to mast rotostay furling gear and boom and provide new spinnaker boom. One Sail were instructed to launder and repair main genoa and headsail, together with spray hood and lazy bag, provide new forehatch cover and replace all internal upholstery with new. Beta 10 hp engine was winterised and subsequently recommissioned by French Marine Motors. Total cost of work circa £11000.
Equipment with the boat includes: Compass, log/echo sounder, chart plotter, autohelm, new pulpit and pushpit lights, installed 2021 when all electrics were checked over, twin batteries, shore power supply lead and battery charger, vhf radio (with DSC and AIS), CQR anchor and cable, multiple warps, webbing jackstays and harness, sheet and spinnaker winches (in good order), spray hood (not fitted), wind generator (not fitted), boarding ladder, bilge pump, fenders, including unused new blow up fenders.
Below decks: 4 berths with new upholstery (as above), new Taylor’s cooker (as above), stainless steel sink with electric cold water supply from flexible water tank. Zenith marine toilet.

Mainsail with slab reefing, large genoa and headsail. Ages unknown but all washed cleaned and repaired as necessary in 2021. No spinnaker.
